Mari El Radio 2.6: a big update to the Android app

Promo video (voice-over in Russian)

I've just released a big update to the Mari El Radio app for Android — version 2.6. The headline: the radio keeps playing even when mobile internet is limited to whitelisted services — the app switches to a backup stream via Yandex Radio on its own. The video above sums it all up; the details are below.

What's new

  • Works under whitelists. If the station's own stream can't be reached, playback continues via Yandex Radio — nothing for you to do.
  • Auto-reconnect. If the connection drops, the app restores the stream by itself, and the connection status is always clearly shown.
  • A new main screen. A big play button and large artist photos, so you can see at a glance who's singing.
  • The sleep timer works in the background. Fall asleep to the radio: playback stops right on time, even when the app is minimized.
  • A better Android Auto. Fixes, plus song progress when you listen to the archive in the car.

Send a greeting on air

Your voice and your greeting will be heard across the whole Mari world. Record an audio greeting right in the app — up to 60 seconds — and send it to the studio. The best greetings go on air.

Everything you already love

  • a 15-day show archive with search — start from any song;
  • recording the stream to MP3 and sharing it with friends and family;
  • playback controls in the notification shade and on the lock screen;
  • an Android TV version and your own theme color;
  • one-tap contact with the studio: MAX, Telegram or a phone call.

The app is free and runs on Android 7.0 or later. Update or download it on Google Play or RuStore, or grab the APK straight from the station's website. Пӱтынь марий тӱня колыштеш — the whole Mari world is listening!
